Braindead is a comedy-gore movie directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) in 1992. It had a three million dollar budget. It followed the gore-style of other Jackson´s movies, such as Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles. It is considered as one of the bloodiest movies ever made. The movie takes place in New Zealand during the 50's. The protagonist Lionel Cosgrove (Timothy Balme) lives with his overprotective mother (Elizabeth Moody). Lionel always does everything her mother orders him to do. Then, Lionel falls in love with Paquita (Diana Peñalver) a young woman who works in a local grocery store. One day, Lionel and Paquita went on a date to the zoo and Lionel´s mother followed them in secret. Unfortunately, while Lionel´s mother was spying on her son, she is bitten on the arm by a mysterious creature known as the monkey-rat of Sumatra. Gradually, the monkey-rat´s bite starts turning her into a man-eating zombie. Although, Lionel is horrofied, he tries to live with his zombie-mother as if nothing had happened...thus, unleashing in this way, a catastrophic zombie-mayhem.
